Why North East Matters : A movement for recognition and a voice

A chapter for NE trended on Twitter on Thursday with the help of over 30 student unions raising their voice against the ever-rising racism against the people from North East, so the students and youth who have to visit other states to pursue their career took it upon themselves to combat the ignorance of North East and AChapterforNE trended on 3rd June between 6 pm to 8 pm.
The entirety of India witnessed the ugly face of racism against N Eastern people during this coronavirus pandemic. People of North Eastern descent were attacked and became targets of Xenophobia throughout mainland India, a study commissioned by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) on racial discrimination found that the "northeast India seamlessly fits[an] Indian's imagination of a Chinese person". According to the study, '78% of the people from the region believe that physical appearance was the reason for prejudice against them' and the reason why they are harassed, abused, and traumatised, and got called 'Coronavirus'.
Twitteratis from all over chimed in to remind the Union Education Ministry that the North East is also a part of India and deserves rightful representation in NCERT textbooks, a right which it has been denied up until now. Users highlighted the vibrant culture and historical heritage of the North East which has been criminally ignored.

One user wrote,
"Seven sisters, one brother, one soul. We stand up together as a whole. They call us different but we sing the same National Anthem and salute National Flag. We may be aside but we aren't apart we are from "NORTHEAST INDIA"

while another reminding us of the extreme significance of North East to Indian history wrote,
"Heard of the Saraighat Express train? But don't know what's Saraighat, right? The Battle of Saraighat was in 1671 between the Mughal Empire (led Raja Ramsingh I),and the Ahom Kingdom (led by Lachit Borphukan) on the Brahmaputra river at Saraighat. #AchapterforNE #NortheastMatters"

North East is the pride of India and momentous part of Indian civilisation, Let's treat it as such.
